On Sunday, Nov. 15, more than 600 of the YMCA’s most generous donors, including the Warden Family, gathered for the YMCA’s annual Festival of Trees appreciation event at the Orlando Museum of Art. It was the 14th year for the celebration, which thanks and recognizes major donors whose charitable giving supports the Y’s cause and mission. During the event, the Y presented its 2015 Dr. P. Operation Christmas Child

September 25, 2013
Few things make us feel as good about ourselves as when we take the time to help someone else. At the Y, we see the sense of satisfaction in our volunteers every day. One way that everyone can give back is with Operation Christmas Child.   The Y of Central Florida has participated in Operation Christmas Child before, and this year we are challenging our communities and partners to help us… [...]

Nearly every day around 3 p.m., staff at the South Orlando Y receieve a clear reminder of why their work is so important.   “As soon as school lets out at Oak Ridge High, kids start climbing over the back fence and trying to sneak into the Y,” said Liz Diaz, South Orlando Y membership coordinator. “They want to be here because it’s a safe place to play basketball and be… [...]

As part of the Y’s commitment to social responsibility, more than 35,000 people − or one-third of our members − receive some sort of financial assistance. And with Central Florida’s poverty rate rising, the need for Y quality programs and services continues to grow. With an estimated 25% of Central Floridians now living in poverty, many parents are working several jobs just to survive. In addition to the enormous financial… [...]

We’ve all heard the saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. And while the idea is hardly new, it’s certainly gaining new attention as America looks to reform its healthcare, education and criminal justice systems.   Here at the Y, we’ve been at the forefront of prevention for decades. In fact, our organization is leading the way in preventing – and reversing – many complex… [...]

People don’t realize that the Y is more than a swim and gym. In fact, the Y is a cause that provides members with a way to connect in a secure environment and help neighbors right in their own communities. And we are happy to report that the connection and caring is stronger than ever. One way we help those in need in our communities is through our Annual Support… [...]

It’s time to re-introduce ourselves. We are the Y of Central Florida – an inclusive organization of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurture the potential of kids, promote healthy living and foster a sense of social responsibility. No other organization touches as many lives as we do. In fact, most other non-profit organizations have a small footprint in one or two neighborhoods, but our… [...]

At the Y, one of our areas of focus is social responsibility which means we mobilize local communities to effect lasting, meaningful change. That is why we partnered with Operation Christmas Child to send off shoeboxes that will go all over the world directly into the hands of children in need. Operation Christmas Child allows children to experience opening a Christmas present for the first time in their lives. It’s… [...]

Here at the Y we believe we can make a real difference in the lives of people and communities we engage within our country and around the globe. That is why we support Operation Christmas Child, Samaritan’s Purse annual gift-filled shoe box drive intended to improve the lives of many suffering children overseas.   During the week of November 14-21, 2011, our 25 local Y of Central Florida family centers… [...]

This year, those volunteers along with our donors allowed the YMCA of Central Florida to provide resources and guidance to 230,000 Central Floridians. "I immediately researched becoming an instructor. Being a stay at home mom, I was thrilled to hear that Dr.… [...]

Change Lives

We want to show you what the Y Scholarship Campaign does for our community, and the best way to do that is to share a mother’s story. I wanted to let you know that you have made a difference in the life of a little girl. My three year old daughter and I were recently relocated by the Court. She had to get used to a new city, a new… [...]
