The Y of Central Florida, in partnership with the Winter Park Health Foundation (WPHF), is proud to announce that the Peggy & Philip B. Crosby Wellness Center YMCA will soon be located within an innovative new health and wellness destination planned in Winter Park.
Known as Project Wellness, the facility will be built on the site of the existing Crosby Wellness Center YMCA, which was constructed by the WPHF in 1989 and has been operated by the Y since 2000. The Foundation, as part of its mission to improve the health and wellness of Winter Park area residents, is funding Project Wellness.
In the new Y, members will have access to all existing Y programs, services and benefits, plus additional resources and convenience due to the involvement of Winter Park Memorial Hospital and the WPHF.
Integrating wellness, fitness and medical services under one roof
While the current YMCA facility was ahead of its time 26 years ago, the needs of community have changed as people seek a wider range of resources to live longer, healthier lives.
“As a partnership between the Winter Park Health Foundation, the YMCA and Winter Park Memorial Hospital, Project Wellness will integrate the latest wellness, fitness and medical services all under one roof,” said Patty Maddox, WPHF President/CEO. “Our goal is to continue providing the best possible wellness resources to the people ─ and Y members ─ of Winter Park, Maitland and Eatonville.”
Due to open in late 2017, Project Wellness will be a two-story, nature-designed respite featuring gardens, water features and social gathering areas. In addition to the Y, it will offer medical offices operated by Winter Park Memorial Hospital, physical therapy and rehabilitation services, a café, teaching kitchen, and Aging in Place, a showcase of resources to help older adults live safely and independently at home.
Beautiful, New Y with Even More to Offer
“As committed partner for more than 15 years, the Y is extremely grateful to the Winter Park Health Foundation for inviting us become an integral part of Project Wellness,” said Dan Wilcox, YMCA of Central Florida President/CEO. “Our beautiful new Crosby Wellness Center YMCA will include all of the features members currently enjoy, plus even more ways to stay healthy, fit and socially connected.”
Among the Y’s new features: Two swimming pools: a warmer one for water aerobics and aqua therapy, and a cooler one for lap swimming. It also will have a stationary-cycling studio, an indoor track, new social areas and studios for group exercise, including yoga.
“Listening” to Gather Member Input
With all services continuing uninterrupted at the existing Y until late spring 2016, the Y is conducting “listening sessions” to engage members around the transition process. The Y is committed to making the transition as easy as possible and ensuring all members can stay fully strong, active and healthy during that time.
To gather input, the Y has scheduled the following informational coffees at the Crosby Wellness Center YMCA, 2005 Mizell Ave. | Winter Park, FL 32792:
- Wednesday, September 23, 10:45 am
- Wednesday, September 23, 5:00 pm
- Thursday, September 24, 7:00 am
